Over the weekend, the College of St. Scholastica rugby teams traveled to Wayne to participate in a tournament. The teams had an eventful weekend, traveling eight hours, sleeping in a bowling alley, and playing multiple games. This weekend was very successful for the rugby teams.

“The major takeaway for me was learning more about the game,” sophomore Stephany Medina said. “There was immense improvement in our defense throughout the games as well as our rucking abilities.”

Rugby at CSS has grown over the last couple of years. This trip was a big deal for the team. During the weekend, players were able to play against a lot of different teams, build a better team bond, play new positions, and practice their existing ones. They were also able to adapt playing 7s. On a typical rugby team, there are 15 players on the field at a time. CSS rugby was playing 7 people on the field at a time instead.

Anyone who is interested in joining the team is welcome to come. The participants at the Wayne tournament this past weekend all hope that this would attract attention to find more recruits for both the men and women’s team.

The rugby team usually travels to compete, but they will be hosting a rugby tournament at The College of St. Scholastica campus on Saturday, April 22nd. All are encouraged to come and support both the men and women.
