Golf Competes in UNW Invite

The College of St. Scholastica men and women golf teams competed in the cities this past Tuesday, taking part in the Northwestern hosted UNW Invite at Gross National Golf Course. Both teams represented CSS well, as the men’s team placed third out of eight teams and the women’s team placed fourth.

The top performer for the men’s team Tuesday afternoon was Anthony Ahrens, who shot a season-best 75 (+4) to tie for seventh in the competition. Not too far behind him was teammate Tyler Madill in 11th after shooting a 77 (+6), which was also a season-best. Sam Long followed the pattern of finishing two behind a teammate as he placed 14th with a score of 79 (+8). Cole Martin (+9) and Brent Nafzger (+11) rounded out the scoring for the Saints by finishing 20th and 21st, respectively.

The women finished one spot below the men’s team at fourth on the team leaderboard, but had a higher finisher on the player leaderboard. Amanda Broman found herself in the fourth place position at the end of the day after shooting an 89 (+18) to lead the Saints. Kristen Lilya was the second Saint to place, posting a score of 94 (+23) to climb into the top ten at the eight spot. Hannah Johnson came in third, shooting an even 100 (+29) on the course for 18th. Jennifer Thul (+33) placed 22nd to finish fourth on the Saints roster. Lastly, Hannah Dougherty (+36) rounded out the CSS scoring with a 27th place finish.

The St. Scholastica golf teams will now travel to Crow Wing Golf Course in Hutchinson this upcoming weekend for the Bethany Lutheran hosted Viking Invite. The two-day competition will be the last for each team before the conference meet in Alexandria on Thursday, October 5th.
